THE METHOD OF UNDERSTANDING FÂRÂBÎ IN THE PAST AND THE PROBLEM OF INTERPRETING CONTEMPORARY FÂRÂBÎ

Öz

In this article, we try to express some fi ndings on understanding and interpreting the Islamic thought in general and, in particular, the heritage of Islamic philosophy. Also, some of the problems encountered in writing the history of Islamic philosophy are mentioned. By these problems, Al-Fârâbî, who is one of the outstanding Islamic philosophers is put into a reading of two layers. First, our method of understanding al-Fârâbî, who lived in the past and contributed to our intellectual tradition signifi cantly, and second, some of the problems of our interpreting Al-Fârâbî in the face of important modern problems are pointed out. In this regard, our main question is how we can understand and interpret al-Fârâbî “today,” “now” and “here.” As we try to express here in this article, our reading of alFârâbî in the past contains many problems since it depends on contemporary perceptions, problems, and values. Finally instead of getting rid of these problems, the different approaches are evaluated comparatively to realize the kind of problem that we face today.

GEÇMİȘTEKİ FÂRÂBÎ’Yİ ANLAMA USULÜ ÇAĞDAȘ FÂRÂBÎ’Yİ YORUMLAMA SORUNU

Öz

Bu makalede genel olarak İslam düşüncesinin özel olarak da İslam felsefe mirasının nasıl anlaşılması ve yorumlanması gerektiğine dair bazı tespitler dile getirilmiş ve özellikle İslam felsefesi tarih yazımının günümüzde karşılaştığı bazı sorunlardan bahsedilmiş- tir. Bu sorunlar çerçevesinde özellikle İslam felsefesinin mümtaz fi lozofl arından Fârâbî ikili bir okumaya tabi tutulmuştur. Öncelikle geçmişte yaşamış, entelektüel geleneğimize çığır açıcı katkılarda bulunmuş Fârâbî’yi anlama usulümüz dile getirilmiş, ikinci olarak da çağdaş dönemde, Fârâbî’nin yorumlarının bazı sorunlarına işaret edilmiştir. Bu anlamda temel sorumuz “bugün”, “şimdi”, ve “burada” Fârâbî’yi nasıl anlayabiliriz ve yorumlayabiliriz etrafında şekillenecektir. Bu makalede ortaya koyduğumuz üzeri geçmişteki Fârâbî’yi bugün okumamız ağırlıklı olarak bugünün problemleri, algı ve değer yargıları üzerinden olduğu için önemli sorunlarla maluldür. Bu sorunlardan kurtulmak yerine nasıl bir sorunla karşı karşıya kaldığımızın fark edilmesi amacıyla konuyla ilgili değişik yaklaşım biçimleri karşılaştırılmalı bir biçimde ele alınmaya çalışılmıştır
