The Concept of Multiple Negation and a Glance at Multiple Negation in Turkish in the Case of Yûnus Emre Divânı

Many (at least two) negation constituent present in the morpho-syntactic structure sometimes can be in harmony thus corresponding to another negative meaning but sometimes may cancel themselves to produce a positive meaning. In this study, multiple negation concept has been studied and the examples of this concept in Turkish have been tried to be put forth via evidences acquired from the poems of Yûnus Emre in his special style of 13th century Oğuz Turkish. Yûnus Emre is an individual who has not only received kindness during his own period of life with his poems that appeal to human heart and the ideas that he put forth via these poems, but also has received wide acclaim even centuries later. The fact that his poems have been read and recited for centuries is undoubtedly related with the essence of the messages that he wishes to convey as well as the fluent and flowing style with which he conveys these messages. Multiple negation is one of the uses of language that make positive and/or negative expressions strong/effective and it has found place for itself within this plain but artistic style

Biçim-söz dizimsel yapıda yer alan çok sayıda (en az iki) olumsuzluk unsuru, kimi zaman uyum içerisinde olup yine bir olumsuz anlamı karşılarken kimi zaman da birbirini iptal ederek olumlu bir anlam ortaya koyabilir. Bu çalışmada çoklu olumsuzluk kavramı üzerinde durulmuş, bu kavramın Türkçedeki görünümleri 13. yüzyıl Oğuz Türkçesini kendine has üslubuyla yansıtan Yûnus Emre’nin şiirlerinden elde edilen tanıklarla ortaya konmaya çalışılmıştır. Yûnus Emre, insan gönlüne hitap eden şiirleri ve bu şiirler aracılığıyla telkin ettiği fikirleriyle yalnızca döneminde değil, yüzyıllar sonra da teveccüh görmüş müstesna şahsiyetlerden biridir. Şiirlerinin, hitap ettiği kitlenin zihninde yer ederek yüzyıllar boyunca zevkle okunup söylenmesinde hiç şüphesiz onun muhataplarına vermek istediği mesajın mahiyeti kadar bu mesajı dile getiriş biçimi, söyleyiş incelikleriyle dolu akıcı, kıvrak üslubu doğrudan ilgilidir. Olumlu ve/veya olumsuz ifadeyi güçlü/etkili kılan dil kullanımlarından biri olan çoklu olumsuzluk da bu yalın ama sanatkârâne üslupta kendine yer bulmuştur
