More beautiful than the moon. Beauties in the Fairy Tales of Grimm and Kúnos

The beauty is since beginning of mankind in the centre of the life of many cultures. From ancient time the beauty is also undisputed the subject of debate in the science. By the nearness to the aesthetics beauty is also a subject of art, music and particularly literature. In different text types of narratology like epics, legends and fairy tales the beauty is strongly expressed. Besides, the folk tale takes a special place. The aim of this paper is to research the view of beauty in German and Turkish folk tales. Besides, analyze of beauty refers exclusively to feminine figures in the world of folktale in both cultures. Beauty characteristics of men, animal and nature are excluded. So meaning, function and cultural aspects of beauty are in the center of the examination. On the bases of the texts of the Brother Grimm (first version of 1812 and 1815) and the Turkish folktales of Ignácz Kúnos (first version of 1887) the terms “beautiful”, “beauty” and “aesthetics” will be analyzed and discussed with regard to mythology, culture and to the theory of telling by the method of hermeneutics. Aim of the research is also to examine the standards of beauty critically in the German and Turkish culture.

Aydan Güzel. Grimm ve Kunos Masallarında Güzellik Anlayışı

Öz

İnsanlık tarihinin başlangıcından itibaren ‘güzellik’ toplumsal yaşamın merkezinde yer almıştır. Antik çağdan bu yana “güzellik” ve “güzel olma” olguları şüphesiz bilimsel tartışmaların da odak noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Estetik anlayışına yakınlığı nedeniyle “güzel” kavramı aynı zamanda sanatın, müziğin ve özellikle de edebiyatın konularındandır. Farklı milletlere ait destan, efsane ve masal gibi naratolojinin farklı metin türlerinde “güzellik” unsuru belirgin bir şekilde dile gelir. Halk masalı bu bağlamda özel bir konuma sahiptir. İlgili çalışmanın amacı Alman ve Türk halk masallarında yer alan güzellik anlayışını araştırmaktır. Ele alınan bu araştırmada ise güzel kavramı Alman ve Türk olmak üzere her iki anlatı kültüründe yer alan masal dünyasına ait dişil tipler ile sınırlandırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda eril tipler, hayvanlar âlemi ve farklı tabiat olaylarına özgü güzellik unsurları ve kriterleri inceleme dışında tutulmuştur. Dolayısıyla güzel kavramının anlam dokusu, işlevi ve kültürel zemini çalışmanın odak noktasıdır. Grimm Kardeşlerinin masal derlemesi (1812 ve 1815 tarihli ilk baskıları) ve Ignacz Kunos’un masalları (1887 tarihli ilk baskı) çerçevesinde “güzel”, “güzellik” ve “estetik” kavramları analiz edilerek tartışmaya sunulacaktır. Masallar anlatı teorisi, mitoloji ve kültürel eleştiri çerçevesinde Hermeneutik yöntemi ile incelenecektir. Bu bağlamda her iki kültüre özgü (yani Alman ve Türk toplum yapısında) güzelliğin ölçü değerlerini sorgulamak ayrıca hedeftir.
