More beautiful than the moon. Beauties in the Fairy Tales of Grimm and Kúnos

The beauty is since beginning of mankind in the
centre of the life of many cultures. From ancient time the beauty is also undisputed the subject of debate
in the science. By the nearness to the aesthetics beauty is also a subject of
art, music and particularly literature. In different text types of narratology
like epics, legends and fairy tales the beauty is strongly expressed. Besides,
the folk tale takes a special place. The aim of this paper is to research the
view of beauty in German and Turkish folk tales. Besides, analyze of beauty
refers exclusively to feminine figures in the world of folktale in both
cultures. Beauty characteristics of men, animal and nature are excluded. So meaning,
function and cultural aspects of beauty are in the center of the examination.
On the bases of the texts of the Brother Grimm (first version of 1812 and 1815)
and the Turkish folktales of Ignácz Kúnos (first version of 1887) the terms “beautiful”,
“beauty” and “aesthetics” will be analyzed and discussed with regard to mythology,
culture and to the theory of telling by the method of hermeneutics. Aim of the
research is also to examine the standards of beauty critically in the German
and Turkish culture.
