THE SURVEY ON THE HABITS OF ADOLOSCENTS’ PLAYING COMPUTER GAME AND THE PROCESS OF SOCIALIZATION (THE CASE OF KÜTAHYA)

The transition of individual from childhood to adulthood as long as containing all the developmental characteristics of period between the ages of 12-25 is called as adolescence. Gaining the individual's personality, winning the preparation of a particular social environment, in the process of integration into society is called socialization. In the socialization of the individual, family, neighbors, friends, teachers and mass media are effective. Nowadays, computer games have crucial roles in the lives of adolescents. The main purpose of this study is to investigate 13-14 age group adolescent’s habits of playing computer games and their socialization process. To collect data, a questionnaire has been applied to the 365 seventh and eighth grade secondary school students which are selected from Kütahya province. According to the findings, playing computer games more than 2 hours a day has been caused the socialization problems. According to experts, more than 2 hours a day playing computer games to those who are called as an addict. In this study, the decrease in the quality of life of adolescents’ addiction to computer games, family and friends have lead to failures in communication conflicts and lessons. However, less than 2 hours a day playing computer games according to age and adolescents have fun and make a positive contribution to development was observed. It is possible to prevent adolescents’ addiction to computer games with the joint efforts of parents, educators and officials.
