Dynamic Field Assessment of Pressure Drop and Pressure Dew Point Performance in an Industrial Refrigerated Compressed Air Dryer Line

Öz

Compressed air is one of the primary energy carriers used to operate pneumatic equipment and industrial processes. Moisture control is important for achieving the required air quality at the point of use. Refrigerated dryers reduce the moisture content of compressed air by condensing water vapor. Industrial field studies that jointly examine the hydraulic behavior and pressure dew point performance of refrigerated dryer lines under variable production demand remain limited. This study evaluated the hydraulic and pressure dew point performance of an industrial refrigerated dryer line under actual production conditions. Volumetric flow rate, line pressure, line pressure drop, and outlet pressure dew point were measured simultaneously. The flow rate ranged from 8.37 to 23.59 m³ min⁻¹. Line pressure drop ranged from 0.081 to 0.665 bar. The ratio of pressure drop to inlet pressure reached a maximum of 10.48%. The slope of the relationship between flow rate and pressure drop increased at higher flow rates. After initial conditioning, the outlet pressure dew point remained below the +3 °Ctd limit defined for water in ISO 8573-1. Short term changes in flow rate and pressure drop were not reflected in the outlet pressure dew point on the same time scale. This study provides field data at the system level for the simultaneous assessment of pressure dew point performance and hydraulic behavior under variable production demand.
