Econometric Analysis of Turkey’s Export-Led Growth
Öz
Export led Hypothesis (ELH) which indicates that export positively affects economic growth is usually tested by linear causality tests. While, some findings present causalities and some others report no causal relationship between export and growth. However, very few studies focus on the nonlinear relationship structure within ELH framework. The aim of this study is to investigate the (direction of) possible nonlinear causal relationship(s) between export and growth, to test ELH for Turkey. Therefore, Hiemstra and Jones (1994) and Diks and Panchenko (2006) nonparametric causality tests which has the ability to capture nonlinear causalities are implemented. Evidence of nonlinear causality is found from export to economic growth when Diks and Panchenko’s (2006) model is applied. In addition to this, Diks and Panchenko’s (2006) test performed better than Hiemstra and Jones’s (1994) test. Findings point out that ELH is valid for Turkey
