Delta Ecosystems and Degradational Impacts: A Case Study on The Küçük Menderes Delta
Öz
The Küçük Menderes Delta Plain and its wetland area is one of the important ecosystems of the Aegean region as well as of Turkey as a whole. The delta was formed by the overflowing delta sediments of the Küçük Menderes River in a depression located in the west part of Menderes Massif. Historians, geomorphologists and archaeologists have been very much interested in this area because of Ephesus the ancient city which is located south of the plain. The delta plain and its surround have been settlement since prehistoric age and intensely used for agriculture. Although, the delta has some protected statue like natural SITE and Wild Life Protection Area, human activities and their degradational impacts continue into the present.
