Developing Problem-Solving Skills within an Inquiry-Based Learning Framework: The Impact of the İNŞA Early Childhood Program

Öz

This study examined the effect of the İNŞA Early Childhood Program on children's problem-solving skills. Using a two-stage controlled pretest-posttest experimental design, it included an experimental group (n=61) in a public kindergarten implementing İNŞA, a control group 1 (n=25) in a private kindergarten following the existing program, and a control group 2 (n=30) assessed only at posttest. The Hanoi Towers Test measured executive functions, including planning, cognitive flexibility, and strategy development. The experimental group showed significant improvement from pretest to posttest. Control group 1 improved moderately, whereas control group 2 had lower posttest scores than the other groups. ANOVA and post-hoc tests showed that the experimental group outperformed both control groups. These findings suggest that İNŞA strengthens children's problem-solving skills, likely due to its theoretical and pedagogical foundations rather than socioeconomic advantages, and underscore the value of inquiry-based, holistic models in early childhood program design.
