Öz
The purpose of this study is to investigate how
well a project that aimed to develop scientific research competencies of
teachers who were also graduate students in the faculties of education at
different universities – those established in 2006 or later in Turkey - was
conducive to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are considered
as essential for the process of carrying out research in education, as
perceived by participating teachers. Designed as a qualitative case study, the
sample involved 27 participants who had been selected for the project through
criterion sampling and maximum variation sampling strategies. The data were
collected through five semi-structured face-to-face focus group interviews and
analyzed by content analysis method. Considering the findings of the study, the
participants articulated that they found this training effective and the
project helped them improve their scientific research competencies in three
dimensions: (1) knowledge, (2) skills, and (3) attitudes-beliefs. In light of
the findings, the present study offers essential implications to pre-service
teacher education, in-service teacher education, and graduate education for
developing the scientific research competencies of individuals more
effectively.
