Enhancing Basic Life Support Competency in Urology Departments: Implications of Hospital-Wide Knowledge Gaps

Öz

Basic Life Support (BLS) competency is essential for ensuring patient safety during in-hospital emergencies. In surgical specialties such as urology, perioperative cardiac arrest and sudden clinical deterioration may occur unexpectedly, requiring rapid and coordinated responses from all personnel present. Variations in BLS knowledge and preparedness among different occupational groups may lead to critical delays, even in settings with experienced clinical staff. This letter highlights the importance of hospital-wide, multidisciplinary BLS training that includes both clinical and non-clinical personnel. Emphasis is placed on the role of updated guidelines, infection control measures, and simulation-based interdisciplinary education in improving emergency response and patient outcomes in urology departments.
