Adoption of ChatGPT as a Drug Information Resource: A Community-Based Study Among Pharmacists
Öz
Access to accurate and timely drug information is essential for safe and effective pharmacy practice, yet conventional drug information resources are often limited by high costs, restricted accessibility, and time-intensive searches. Artificial intelligence based tools such as ChatGPT provide rapid, conversational access to drug-related information; however, evidence regarding their use in pharmacy practice is limited. This community-based cross-sectional study evaluated the extent, purpose, and perceived impact of ChatGPT utilization among pharmacists. A total of 300 pharmacists from community, hospital, and academic settings participated using a validated questionnaire assessing frequency of use, types of queries, perceived accuracy, and challenges. Overall, 72% of pharmacists reported using ChatGPT for drug information, with highest utilization in community practice. Common queries included dosage adjustments (41%), drug- drug interactions (28%), and adverse drug reaction management (22%). A majority of the participants felt that ChatGPT is a time-saving tool (68%) and has moderate to high levels of accuracy (61%), and 55% of the participants felt that it increased their confidence levels in patient counseling. However, 32% of the participants were concerned about the reliability and lack of citations in the sources used by ChatGPT.
