The late Westphalian international system, which claims to replace the classical Westphalian international system, is closely linked to the globalization process. The globalization process claims to change the role of the state in the international system. In this new system, it is almost impossible to be an autonomous and self-sufficient state due to interdependencies. With the support of the globalization process, several new non-state actors have been included in the system. Thanks to globalization, terrorist organizations and multinational companies can go beyond the borders easily, just like capital and ideas. Issues such as illegal immigrant traffic, drugs and weapons smuggling, energy security, weapons of mass destruction, and global financial crises can also easily cross borders and become global problems. Epidemic diseases have recently been added to these problems. International interdependence compels states to change their traditional understanding of sovereignty and security. This new international order encourages Turkey to be more active in international politics and to follow a pragmatic policy. In the late Westphalian international system, Turkey is becoming an important actor in the Eurasian region, not only in terms of economic, cultural, and political aspects, but also in terms of regional security.
