THE PSYCHOSOCIAL DYNAMICS OF PROFESSIONAL DECISION REGRET AMONG OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY SPECIALISTS: FINANCIAL STRESS AND WORKLOAD

Öz

Occupational safety specialist play a very important role in ensuring safe workplaces, but they face significant psychosocial risks that affect their well-being and performance. This study examines the relationships between workload, financial stress, and career decision regret among occupational safety specialists in Turkey. The study included 224 occupational safety specialists, and significant positive correlations were found between workload, financial stress, and career decision regret. Specifically, financial stress partially mediates the relationship between perceived workload and career decision regret. In other words, heavy workload increases career decision regret both directly and indirectly through increased financial stress. Financial stress stemming from low wages or job insecurity, combined with high workloads, can lead to decreased cognitive performance, errors, and riskier decisions. These factors significantly contribute to career decision regret, causing specialists to question their career choices due to negative experiences. These findings highlight that even experienced occupational safety specialist professionals may experience career regret and often feel overwhelmed due to financial pressures. It is crucial for organisations to address these psychosocial risks by fostering effective leadership, continuous education, and supportive work environments. Reducing financial and workload-related stress can significantly reduce career regret and ultimately lead to better occupational safety practices.

İŞ GÜVENLİĞİ UZMANLARINDA MESLEKİ KARAR PİŞMANLIĞININ PSİKOSOSYAL DİNAMİKLERİ: FİNANSAL STRES VE İŞ YÜKÜ

Öz

İş güvenliği uzmanları, güvenli iş yerleri sağlamada çok önemli bir role sahiptir, ancak refahlarını ve performanslarını etkileyen önemli psikososyal risklerle karşı karşıyadırlar. Bu çalışma, Türkiye'deki iş güvenliği uzmanları arasında iş yükü, finansal stres ve kariyer kararı pişmanlığı arasındaki ilişkileri incelemektedir. Çalışmaya 224 iş güvenliği uzmanı katılmış ve iş yükü, finansal stres ve kariyer kararı pişmanlığı arasında önemli pozitif korelasyonlar bulunmuştur. Özellikle, finansal stres, algılanan iş yükü ile kariyer kararı pişmanlığı arasındaki ilişkiye kısmen aracılık etmektedir. Bir başka deyişle ağır iş yükü, artan finansal stres yoluyla hem doğrudan hem de dolaylı olarak mesleki karar pişmanlığını artırmaktadır. Düşük ücretler veya iş güvencesizliğinden kaynaklanan finansal stres ve yüksek iş yükü, bilişsel performansın düşmesine, hatalara ve daha riskli kararlara yol açabilir. Bu faktörler, uzmanların olumsuz deneyimler nedeniyle kariyer seçimlerini sorgulamalarına neden olan kariyer kararı pişmanlığına önemli ölçüde katkıda bulunmaktadır. Bu bulgular, deneyimli iş güvenliği uzmanlarının bile kariyer seçimlerinden pişmanlık duyabileceğini ve genellikle finansal baskılar nedeniyle bunalmış hissedebileceğini vurgulamaktadır. Kuruluşların etkili liderlik, sürekli eğitim ve destekleyici çalışma ortamları oluşturarak bu psikososyal riskleri ele alması çok önemlidir. Finansal ve iş yüküyle ilgili stresi azaltmak, mesleki pişmanlığı önemli ölçüde azaltabilir ve sonuçta daha iyi iş güvenliği uygulamalarına yol açabilir.
