THE PROCESS OF CHANGE THROUGH TECHNOLOGY IN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS: A SAMPLE FROM A HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION

Öz

Recent technological developments have forced more information to be produced when compared to the last years, and have also changed the lifestyles of individuals, their needs of acquiring knowledge and the way they think. Educational institutions are the most affected by the globalization that emerges parallel to such technological developments. Accordingly, the use of technologies accessible at anytime and anywhere by such institutions and individuals has been increased in order to be effective and productive. In this study, it was investigated how transformation with technology process based on distance education could be applied in a higher education institution in Turkey. With this purpose, it was discussed the possibility of using the same steps in the other higher education institutions by explaining the overall process of switching to distance education and managing the change, and its effects to the institution, administrators and teaching staff. According to the results, it was obtained that opinions of administrators who had a key role in transforming with technology were important in the process of change, and administrators and instructors acting with the same strategy influenced the success of transformation.

EĞİTİM KURUMLARINDA TEKNOLOJİ İLE DEĞİŞİM SÜRECİ: BİR YÜKSEKÖĞRETİM KURUMU ÖRNEĞİ

Öz

Bilgi ve iletişim teknolojilerinin geliştiği son yıllarda geçmiştekinden daha fazla bilgi üretilirken yaşanan bu gelişmeler bireylerin hayat tarzlarını, bilgiyi elde etmekteki ihtiyaç durumlarını ve düşüncelerini değiştirmektedir. Teknolojinin gelişimine paralel olarak ortaya çıkan değişimler sonunda küreselleşmeden en çok eğitim kurumları etkilenmektedir. Her an bireylerin yanında olan teknolojik aletler, kurum ve bireylerin gelişim yolunda etkin ve üretken bir yapıya sahip olmaları için e-öğrenme araçlarının kullanımını da artırmaktadır. Bu çalışmada, Türkiye’de bir yükseköğretim kurumunda teknoloji ile dönüşümün uzaktan eğitim tabanlı olarak nasıl uygulanabileceği araştırılmıştır. Bu bağlamda uzaktan eğitime geçiş ve değişim yönetimi süreci, sürecin kuruma, yöneticilerine, öğretim elemanlarına etkileri, elde edilen verilerin Türkiye’de yükseköğretimde yer alan başka kurumlarda da kullanılabilecek bir süreç modeli olup olmadığının tartışılması amaçlanmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre teknoloji ile dönüşümde kilit role sahip olan okul yöneticilerinin yaklaşımlarının değişim sürecinde önem taşıdığı, okul yöneticilerinin ve öğretim elemanlarının aynı strateji doğrultusunda hareket etmelerinin araştırma konusu üniversitede gerçekleştirilen dönüşümün başarısını etkilediği görülmüştür.
