PATHWAYS INTO THE CAMPUS VENTURE: A SPHERICAL FUZZY WEIGHTING AND fsQCA FRAMEWORK FOR DECODING STUDENT ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION

Öz

Student entrepreneurship has become a strategic priority for higher education policy, yet the empirical literature relies on symmetric, variance-based methods such as multiple regression and partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM), which assume linearity, additivity and a single dominant route to entrepreneurial intention. Two features of student entrepreneurship are difficult to reconcile with these assumptions: equifinality, because different combinations of antecedents can lead to an equally high intention, and causal asymmetry, because the conditions that explain a high intention are not the mirror image of those explaining a low one. This study develops a two-stage framework that addresses both. In Stage 1, seven motivating criteria are weighted under uncertainty with a spherical fuzzy expert-weighting procedure anchored in Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) consistency screening; the spherical fuzzy representation records membership, non-membership and hesitancy degrees and thus suits imprecise judgements. In Stage 2, calibrated illustrative case-profile data are analysed with fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA), which identifies the criterion combinations jointly sufficient for a high intention and, through the negated outcome, makes the asymmetry explicit; the weights provide an interpretive layer for contextualising the configurations. The framework is demonstrated on an illustrative, literature-informed dataset of ten cases with notional expert judgements, alongside a deployment design for at least 60 nascent or intending student entrepreneurs. The contribution is threefold: a parsimonious, expert-weighted criteria set; a reusable algorithm connecting fuzzy multi-criteria weighting with set-theoretic analysis of the outcome and its negation; and a transparent research-design template for emerging-economy contexts. All numerical results are therefore illustrative.

Öz

Öğrenci girişimciliği yükseköğretim politikası için stratejik bir öncelik hâline gelmiştir; ancak literatür büyük oranda doğrusallık, toplanabilirlik ve girişimcilik niyetine giden tek bir baskın yol varsayan çoklu regresyon ve kısmi en küçük kareler yapısal eşitlik modellemesi (PLS-SEM) gibi simetrik, varyans temelli yöntemlere dayanmaktadır. Diğer yandan, öğrenci girişimciliğinin iki özelliğinin bu varsayımlarla bağdaştırılması güçtür: (1) Eşsonluluk (ing. equifinality), çünkü birbirinden farklı öncül kombinasyonları eşit derecede yüksek bir niyete yol açabilmektedir; (2) nedensel asimetri, çünkü yüksek niyeti açıklayan koşullar, düşük niyeti açıklayan koşulların ayna görüntüsü değildir. Bu çalışma, her iki özelliği de ele alan iki aşamalı bir çerçeve önermekte ve uygulama örneği sunmaktadır. Birinci aşamada, yedi adet motive edici kriter, Analitik Hiyerarşi Süreci (AHP) tutarlılık taramasını temel alan bir küresel bulanık uzman ağırlıklandırma prosedürü ile belirsizlik altında ağırlıklandırılmaktadır; üyelik, üye olmama ve kararsızlık derecelerini barındıran küresel bulanık gösterim, kesin olmayan yargılar için oldukça uygundur. İkinci aşamada, kalibre edilmiş göstergesel vaka profili verileri, yüksek niyet için birlikte yeterli olan kriter kombinasyonlarını belirleyen ve olumsuzlanmış çıktının çözümlenmesi yoluyla asimetriyi açık hâle getiren bulanık küme nitel karşılaştırmalı analiz (fsQCA) ile incelenmektedir; elde edilen ağırlıklar, konfigürasyonları bağlamsallaştırmak için yorumlayıcı bir katman sağlamaktadır. Çerçeve, literatürden beslenen on vakalık göstergesel bir veri kümesi ve kurgusal uzman yargıları üzerinde örneklendirilmekte ve en az 60 öğrenci girişimci adayından oluşacak bir örneklem için uygulama tasarımı sunulmaktadır. Çalışmanın katkısı üç yönlüdür: (1) Sade ve uzman ağırlıklı bir kriter kümesi; (2) bulanık çok kriterli ağırlıklandırmayı, hem çıktının hem de olumsuzlanmış çıktının küme kuramsal çözümlemesine bağlayan yeniden kullanılabilir bir iş akışı ve (3) gelişmekte olan ekonomiler için şeffaf bir araştırma tasarımı şablonu. Çalışma göstergesel veri kullandığından, tüm sayısal sonuçlar örnek niteliğindedir.
