Hegel’in Fenomenoloji’sinde Bilinç’ten Özbilinç’e Geçiş Problemi
Hegel’in Kant’a yönelttiği “kendiliğindenlik” eleştirisi hatırlatıldığında, Bilinç bölümünde bilincin kendi bilişsel yetilerini ve soyutlama kapasitesini açıklamadan varsayması, Hegelci sistem açısından ciddi bir tutarsızlık izlenimi uyandırmaktadır.

The Problem of the Transition from Consciousness to Self-Consciousness in Hegel’s Phenomenology
Öz
This article examines the structural and conceptual tension that arises in Hegel’s Phenomenology of Spirit in the transition from “Consciousness” to “Self-Consciousness.” The central problem of the study concerns how Hegel’s phenomenological narrative is able to move from an apparently ahistorical and epistemological moment of consciousness to a suddenly historical, social, and normative moment of self-consciousness. In particular, the fact that concepts such as desire, recognition, conflict, and intersubjectivity become visible only at the stage of self-consciousness creates a serious explanatory gap regarding the foundations of these moments within the chapter on consciousness. Taking into account dominant post-Kantian interpretations of Hegel -especially those of Pippin, Pinkard, and Brandom- the article argues that the transition from consciousness to self-consciousness cannot be explained as a merely logical or conceptual derivation. When Hegel’s critique of Kantian “spontaneity” is recalled, the Phenomenology appears to presuppose, rather than explain, the cognitive capacities and powers of abstraction attributed to consciousness in the Consciousness chapter. From the perspective of Hegel’s system, this generates a serious appearance of inconsistency. In this respect, the article maintains that although the Consciousness chapter aims to criticize ahistorical metaphysical positions, it paradoxically reproduces a similar form of ahistoricity within its own framework. The study claims that this gap can only be addressed by reading the Phenomenology in conjunction with Hegel’s relatively underexplored Philosophy of Subjective Spirit. Within the framework of Hegel’s naturalistic anthropology, the concepts of “natural spirit,” “habit” (Gewohnheit), and “second nature” play a crucial role in explaining how the cognitive and practical capacities of consciousness become possible prior to the emergence of explicit historical and social forms. From this perspective, the transition from consciousness to self-consciousness does not represent an abrupt leap from nature to spirit; rather, it is the phenomenological expression of a process in which biological drives are organized through habituation and integrated into cultural and normative structures. In conclusion, the article argues that Hegel’s speculative method can be coherently understood only when situated within an anthropological and naturalistic background. Although the transition from consciousness to self-consciousness constitutes one of the most significant tensions in the Phenomenology of Spirit, this tension, when reinterpreted in light of Hegel’s theory of subjective spirit, becomes a productive problem field that reveals the conditions of historical and normative freedom.
