In academic and scholarly researches and studies, as well as in the concluding remarks of the meetings concerning education recently, we have faced with the
warnings and evaluations on virtue ethics, character education, depending on values, taking advantage of the tradition, taking into .consideration the social dimension of
religion. It seems that in order for meeting with theslı' demands, in the first place, a deeply. philosophical ground is required. In this paper, as a typical example Socrates'
maxim, namely, "man does not commit evil! action consciously; and the source of evil is ignorance", will be held and virtue education, which has been ignored in today's
education, will be exposed. In this context, fırst of all, the following questions will put to be answered mainly on the basis of Plato' s writings: What is virtue?; What kinds of virtue are there?; How can they be taught? At the same time, the questions below will be dealt with indirectly, that is, is the knowledge leading to right moral actions practical or theoretical? Is the transfer of knowledge with no virtuous ground in our time useful or harmful for society?
