The Relation Between Self-Expression, Job-Induced Tension, and Life Satisfaction in Working Life

Öz

This study examines the impact of self-expression styles and job induced tension on life satisfaction. Authentic self-expression refers to an individual's sincere and genuine reflection of their emotions and thoughts, while inauthentic expression involves the suppression or alteration of one's true feelings and thoughts to conform to social expectations. On the other hand, job induced tension represents the psychological stress and strain resulting from workload, organizational pressures, and job demands. Life satisfaction is a subjective well-being indicator that encompasses an individual's overall evaluation of various aspects of their life. The data for the study were collected through an online survey from 309 white-collar employees working in 24 different companies operating in the automotive, personal care, textile, food, and construction sectors in Istanbul. Statistical analysis revealed that Inauthentic Expression and Job Induced Tension have a significant effect on life satisfaction, whereas authentic self-expression does not exhibit a significant impact. The findings suggest that self-expression styles and job induced tension may serve as important determinants of overall life satisfaction in the workplace.
