The Effect of Dairy Consumption on Colorectal Cancer

Yıl 2021, Sayı: 25, 1 - 14, 24.02.2021

Öz

Objective: Cancer is one of the oldest known diseases in human history. Recent approaches to the prevention and treatment of colon cancer include nutrition and chemoprevention practices. Fermented milk products classified as functional foods have an importance in the prevention and treatment of many diseases. Biological benefits of dairy products, which are among the foods that must be consumed in nutrition, are caused by their compounds. Studies have shown that the dairy products can reduce the risk of cancer formation with protective components such as; calcium, butyric acid, linoleic acid, sphingomyelin and probiotics. Various studies on fermented dairy products have reported to inhibit the growth of some tumors cells and to reduce a broad spectrum of mutagens. In addition, meta-analysis shows an inverse correlation between dairy consumption and colorectal cancer. In this review, it is aimed to examine the relationship between dairy consumption and the colorectal cancer.
