The Self – Efficacy Beliefs of the Social Studies Teachers in Teaching Economy Subjects

Öz

The aim of this research is to determine the levels of self – efficacy beliefs of the social studies teachers in teaching economy subjects and to analyse them in terms of different variables. This research was realised with the scanning model and its sample consisted of 316 social studies teachers working in Antalya in 2013 – 2014 educational years. In the research Melinda Odam Staub's scale ‘Economics Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument’ (ETEBI) (2007) was used and applied to the social studies teachers by bein taken necessary permissions and done the scale adaptation works. The study of reliability and validity of The Economy Self - Efficacy Scale for the Social Studies Teachers, consisting of 23 items, was realized and the reliability value of the scale was found to be .74.The data achieved from Teacher The Economy Self - Efficacy Scale for the Social Studies Teachers was analysed with SPSS 21.0. According to the results of the research, it was found out that the levels of self – efficacy of the social studies teachers in teaching economy subjects were lower, and that gender, level of education and job duration didn’t show any differences in the self – efficacy belief. However, it was seen that the teachers having graduated from the faculties of education, those teaching subjects with field trips and those having a habit of reading newspaper or magazines had higher levels of self - efficacy. According to the results of the research, several suggestions were made to increase the self – efficacy beliefs of the social studies teachers.

Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenlerinin Ekonomi Konularını Öğretmede Öz-Yeterlik İnançları

Öz

Bu araştırmanın amacı, sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin ekonomi konularını öğretmedeki sahip oldukları öz-yeterlik inanç düzeylerini belirlemek ve çeşitli değişkenler açısından incelemektir. Tarama modeli ile gerçekleştirilen bu çalışmanın örneklemini 2013-2014 eğitim öğretim yılında Antalya’da görev yapan 316 sosyal bilgiler öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Araştırmada Melinda Odam STAUBS’un (2007), “Economics Teaching Efficacy Belief Instrument” (ETEBI) (2007) ölçeği, gerekli izin alınarak ölçek uyarlama çalışması yapılmış ve sosyal bilgiler öğretmenleri için uyarlanmıştır. 23 maddelik Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenleri İçin Ekonomi Öz-yeterlik Ölçeğinin geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması yapılmış ve ölçme aracının güvenirlik değerinin .74 olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sosyal Bilgiler Öğretmenleri İçin Ekonomi Öz-yeterlik Ölçeği ile elde edilen veriler, SPSS 21.0 programı ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırmanın sonuçları genel olarak değerlendirildiğinde sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin ekonomi konularındaki öz-yeterliklerinin düşük düzeyde olduğu ve cinsiyetin, öğrenim düzeyinin, meslek süresinin öz-yeterlik inancında bir farklılaşma göstermediği tespit edilmiştir. Fakat öğretmenlerden eğitim fakültesinden mezun olanların, konuları alan gezileri ile öğretenlerin ve gazete-dergi okuma alışkanlığı olanların öz-yeterlik inançlarının anlamlı şekilde yüksek olduğu görülmüştür. Araştırmanın sonuçlarına göre sosyal bilgiler öğretmenlerinin öz-yeterlik inançlarını arttırma yönünde bir takım önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
