Sugar beets were obtained from 15 different beet receiving points of Turhal sugar processing factory. Whole sugar beets were kept either for 7 or 21 days at the normal atmospheric conditions. At the end of the 7 or 21 days of storage the loss in the values of sugar in beet samples were evaluated. The highest sugar losses was found as 39.42 % for the beets were kept at the Akdağmadeni and the lowest one was 7.16 % at the Ezinepazarı receiving points for the beets harvested at the first period. The maximum and the minimum sugar losses of the beets harvested at the second harvesting period also were occurred in the same receiving points with the first harvesting period, But sugar losses of sugar beets harvested at second term were nearly 6.12 % lower than the first term ones.

Bu araştırmada; Turhal şeker fabrikasının alım yaptığı 15 kantardan alman pancarlar normal atmosfer koşullarında 7 ve 21 gün tutulduktan sonra şeker değerlerinde oluşan kayıplar incelenmiştir. Birinci dönemde hasadı yapılan pancarların 21 gün depolama sonunda kantarlar arasında en yüksek şeker kaybı % 39.42 ile Akdağmadeni ve en düşük şeker kaybı ise % 7.16 ile Ezinepazarı kantarlarında tutulan pancarlarda oluşmuştur. İkinci dönemde hasat edilen pancarlarda oluşan en yüksek şeker kaybı ise % 26.47 ile yine Akdağmadeni kantarındaki pancarlarda oluşmuştur. Birinci dönemde hasat edilen pancarlarda oluşan ortalama şeker kaybı % 16.08 olurken, ikinci dönemde yaklaşık % 10.06 olmuştur.
