User Experience and Design Performance in Turkish Basketball Arenas: A Qualitative Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) Approach

Öz

Despite the global popularity of large-scale basketball arenas, research on their design performance and user experience, particularly in regional contexts, remains limited. This qualitative Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) study explores the interplay between design, user experience, and facility management practices in three prominent Turkish basketball arenas. Utilizing on-site observations, document analysis, and interviews with facility managers, the research uncovers how design choices impact user experiences and operational efficiency. The findings reveal recurring challenges related to HVAC systems, natural ventilation, multi-purpose adaptability, and wayfinding. Additionally, the study highlights the influence of management structures on arena performance and the critical role of incorporating user feedback. By integrating facility managers' perspectives, this research offers valuable lessons and recommendations for creating future arenas that enhance both spectator satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Türkiye'deki Basketbol Tesislerinde Kullanıcı Deneyimi ve Tasarım Performansı: Nitel bir Kullanım Sürecinde Değerlendirme (KSD) Yaklaşımı

Öz

Büyük ölçekli basketbol arenalarının küresel çapta popüler olmasına rağmen, özellikle bölgesel bağlamlarda tasarım performansı ve kullanıcı deneyimi üzerine yapılan araştırmalar sınırlıdır. Bu niteliksel Kullanım Sürecinde Değerlendirme (KSD) çalışması, üç önemli Türk basketbol arenasında tasarım, kullanıcı deneyimi ve tesis yönetimi uygulamaları arasındaki etkileşimi incelemektedir. Araştırma, saha gözlemleri, doküman analizi ve tesis yöneticileriyle yapılan görüşmeler yoluyla, tasarım tercihlerinin kullanıcı deneyimlerini ve operasyonel verimliliği nasıl etkilediğini ortaya koymaktadır. Bulgular, HVAC sistemleri, doğal havalandırma, çok amaçlı kullanım esnekliği ve yönlendirme ile ilgili tekrarlayan zorlukları ortaya çıkarmaktadır. Ayrıca çalışma, yönetim yapılarının arena performansı üzerindeki etkisini ve kullanıcı geri bildirimlerinin dikkate alınmasının kritik rolünü vurgulamaktadır. Tesis yöneticilerinin bakış açılarını entegre ederek, bu araştırma hem seyirci memnuniyetini hem de operasyonel verimliliği artıran gelecekteki arenaların tasarlanması için değerli dersler ve öneriler sunmaktadır.
