This study describes the experience of the survey, restitution and restoration project carried out in 2009 for the Central Cedid Mosque in Erzurum. The preparation of the survey, restitution and restoration project of the building, which is owned by the General Directorate of Foundations, was tendered by the Regional Directorate of Foundations in Erzurum and carried out by the Artı Bir Project Group Limited Company, of which I am a founding partner. The aim of the project is to protect the Central Cedid Mosque, which is registered as a cultural asset, both as an architectural work and as a historical document. To this end, the building was documented through archival research, measurements, and on-site investigations. Based on these documents, analysis and restitution studies were conducted to determine the original values of the building. Care was taken to ensure that the proposals developed for the preservation of the building did not compromise its originality or prevent the perception of its original values. Therefore, the restoration project sought to eliminate the systemic and material deterioration of the structure and to ensure its continuity in a way that corresponds to contemporary living conditions, by purifying the building from additions that are not part of its original elements.
