TESTING THE FOCAL POINT OF LOCATION AND TIME PREFERENCE: AN EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH ON STUDENTS AND ACADEMICIANS

Öz

Focal point (Schelling point) is the presence of a common solution to the problem when there is no cooperation in the game theory between people. The purpose of this study is to establish whether the residents of the centre of Gumushane have a common meeting point. The study was conducted through questionnaires and students and academics associated with the university of Gumushane responded to the questionnaires. The questionnaire asked both open-ended and close-ended questions and requested details on the location and time of the meeting of minds.

According to the answers given by the students, the location does not focus. As students move to the upper class, they change the location they choose. In time, the emphasis is on the afternoon. In view of statistics on closing questions, it is possible to meet students at the same place and time on a percentage of 13. This rate is 11.8 percent for academics. Students better meet time requirements than academics.

MEKÂN VE ZAMAN TERCİHİNDE ODAK NOKTASININ TEST EDİLMESİ: GÜMÜŞHANE’DE ÖĞRENCİ VE AKADEMİSYENLERE İLİŞKİN DENEYSEL BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Öz

Odak noktası (Schelling noktası), oyun teorisinde
bireylerin aralarında koordinasyon olmadığında bir problemin ortak çözümünün
varlığıdır. Bu çalışmada amaç, Gümüşhane il merkezinde yaşayanların ortak bir
buluşma noktası olup olmadığını tespit etmektir. Çalışma anketler üzerinden
yürütülmüştür ve anketler Gümüşhane Üniversitesi ile ilişkili olan öğrenci ve akademisyenler
tarafından cevaplandırılmıştır. Ankette hem açık uçlu hem de şıklı sorular
sorulmuştur ve ortak buluşma noktasına ilişkin mekân ve saat bilgisi istenmiştir.

Ankete katılan öğrencilerin verdiği cevaplara göre mekân
açısından bir odak noktasının varlığından bahsedilememektedir. Öğrenciler üst
sınıfa doğru geçtikçe mekân tercihlerini değiştirmektedirler. Zaman tercihinde
ise odak noktası öğleden sonradır. Şıklı soruların istatistikleri dikkate
alındığında hem mekân hem de zaman açısından öğrencilerin buluşma ihtimali
%13’tür. Akademisyenler için bu oran %11,8’dir. Öğrenciler zaman beklentilerini
akademisyenlere göre daha iyi karşılamaktadır.
