Evaluation of Fathers' Self-Efficacy and Postpartum Sense of Security

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 13 Sayı: 4, 1733 - 1740, 25.12.2024

Öz

The aim of this study was to evaluate the general self-efficacy and postpartum sense of security of fathers after birth and the influencing factors. Fathers who were over 18 years old, had healthy newborns, were in the postpartum maternity clinic, and volunteered to participate in the study were included in the study. The sample size consisted of 143 fathers using the non-probability random sample selection method from the population. The data of the study were obtained through the Personal Information Form, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and Postpartum Fathers' Sense of Security Scale Forms. Ethics committee approval was obtained to conduct the study. Data were obtained through self-reports. Fathers' General Self-Efficacy Scale mean score was 34.51±5.08, Fathers' Postpartum Sense of Security Scale was 35.08±6.28, Reinforcing Behavior. Sub-dimensions was 9.97±4.15, General Well-Being was 10.00±2.16, Mother's Well-Being was 7.81±2.09, and Family Wellbeing was 7.81±2.09. Closeness was found to be 7.28±1.08. There was a weak positive correlation between fathers' general self-efficacy and fathers' postpartum sense of security score (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was determined that inexperienced fathers had a lower sense of security after birth. It was also concluded that preparation for the postpartum period, support and counseling, and being confident in the health of the mother and baby are important factors for fathers to feel safe after birth. In this context, it is recommended that fathers, especially those who experience fatherhood for the first time, be prepared for the postpartum process, provide support and consultancy, and conduct more comprehensive studies.
