ANALYSIS OF CONSUMER CYNICISM IN TERMS OF DEMOGRAPHIC CHARACTERISTICS: AN APPLICATION IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY

Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine whether the cynicism levels of automobile users within the scope of authorized dealers providing services in the automotive industry differ significantly in terms of their demographic characteristics. Materials and Methods: The main population of the study consists of automobile users who reside in Van and receive service from authorized automobile services. In terms of sampling method, convenience sampling method was used in the study. In the research, a one-on-one survey was conducted with a total of 419 automobile users. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using SPSS and LISREL programs. The findings obtained were evaluated within the 95% confidence interval. Findings: By applying exploratory factor analysis in the study, it was determined that consumer cynicism has a unidimensional structure and at the same time, the scale is quite reliable. In addition, confirmatory factor analysis was also conducted in the study. In the study, the average cynicism level of individuals who own a car is 3.75 on a 5-point Likert scale. Additionally, as a result of the variance analysis, it was determined that there were significant differences between the consumer cynicism levels of automobile users in terms of their professions, marital status, income levels and age groups. On the other hand, no significant differences were detected between the cynicism levels of the research participants towards automobile dealers in terms of their educational status and gender. Results: As a result of the research, it was determined that the cynicism levels of automobile users towards authorized automobile dealers are high. However, it has been determined that consumers' cynicism levels differ in terms of their demographic characteristics. In this context, authorized dealers operating in the automotive industry should take measures to reduce the cynicism levels of automobile users and, within the scope of the research results, should carry out satisfaction-increasing activities for automobile users who have a higher level of cynicism in terms of demographics.
