Treatment Approaches in Patients with Prolonged Priapism (>36 hours)

Yıl 2018, Cilt: 10 Sayı: 4, 138 - 150, 01.09.2018

Öz

Priapism is defined as prolonged and persistent erection of the penis without sexual stimulation. We have limited information on the pathophysiology of this disorder. Two main types of priapism exist: ischemic and nonischemic priapism. In this pathology, prompt treatment is very important to prevent of cavernosal damage and erectile dysfunction. However, treatment approaches and treatment results are controversial in patients with prolonged (>36 hours) priapism. In this review the effect of treatment approaches on functional results were evaluated in prolonged patients.
