Döşemealtı is a large district which consists of 23 villages at the skirts of the Taurus Mountains in north Antalya. Dosemealtı rugs are Kovanlık, Aşağıoba, Killik, Ekşili, Karataş, Karaveliler. Although there is no carpets being made for the last 30 years, those are the carpet manufacturing centers where the best examples of carpets are made and reached out today.
Döşemealtı carpets are made of wool and they are being made on either warp-weighted or vertical weaving looms which are called workbench or weave loom. 30x30, 30x40, 40x50 are the most common dimensions of carpets in the sizes of prayer rugs, floor carpets, runners, quarter carpets.
Commonly used motifs are Halelli, toplu, yıldızlı, kocasulu, dallı, akrepli, ambarlı, albaysuyu, deve ve terazi toplu motifs. In the historical process of Döşemealtı carpets, the most beautiful examples of the region are exhibited in other museums of our country, especially in Antalya Museum. In these museums, the examples of the private collectors and the carpet shops in Kaleiçi were identified and the carpets were promoted by explaining the technical, raw material, color and motif names.
