The traditional Turkish theater, which has an important place for folklore research, lagged behind the modern theater that developed under the influence of the west with the Tanzimat period, and in line with this understanding, the tuluat theater, which is seen as a synthesis of traditional theater and western theater, was born. In this study, the usage and modernization of the elements of the “orta oyun” in Ferhan Şensoy's play "İstanbul’u Satıyorum" are revealed. Ferhan Şensoy tries to reflect these elements to the plays by keeping up with the times, without disturbing the main functions of the traditional Turkish theater elements. While the characters representing the social classes of the period in which the game is played take place in the “orta oyun”, in line with the same understanding, the reflections of the representatives of the rentier and capitalist class formed during the Özal period take their place in the play, in line with the same understanding. Benefiting from the “orta oyun” in terms of language usage, Ferhan Şensoy uses a pointer style like the “orta oyun” by including plain, simple and unconvincing decorations as in the “orta oyun”. As a result, in this study, it is tried to show that “İstanbul’u Satıyorum” can be evaluated as a contemporary “orta oyun”.
