Aim: Nutrition literacy is a fundamental aspect of health literacy, as it enables individuals to make informed decisions about food labels and choose the right foods. It plays a crucial role in maintaining health and preventing disease. This study aims to adopt the Turkish version of the nutrition literacy scale for patients with end-stage renal failure on dialysis.
Materials and Methods: This methodological study was conducted with 250 patients with end-stage renal failure undergoing dialysis between February 2024 and April 2024. The researchers collected the data with the sociodemographic data form and the nutritional literacy scale. The scale's validity was assessed using factor analysis and correlation, as well as the t-test. Up to eight experts from different fields were consulted to determine the scale's content validity. Regarding the reliability of the scale, Cronbach's alpha internal consistency coefficients, test-retest correlation coefficients, and item-total correlations were calculated.
Results: The scale consisted of twenty-eight items and four sub-dimensions, explaining 45.72% of the total variance. Both exploratoryand confirmatory factor analyses revealed that all factor loadings were greater than 0.30. According to confirmatory factor analysis, all fit indices were >0.80 and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation <0.080. Cronbach's alpha value for the total scale was 0.829.
Conclusion: As a result of the analyses, it was determined that the nutritional literacy scale for Patients with end-stage renal Failure on Dialysis was a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish sample.
