Aim: The aim of this study was to identify the nursing care perception of nurses working in emergency room.
Material and Methods: The phenomenological method was used in this qualitative study. The study was conducted with 13 nurses working in the emergency room of a university hospital who agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected with semistructured in-depth individual interview questionnaire form using face-to-face interview technique.
Results: Analysis of the research data revealed that the emergency room nurses’ perceptions towards care are gathered in three main themes as followed: Difficulty to Name the Care Procedures, Characteristics of Nurses and Barriers to Care. The nurses stated that they were primarily focused on acute problems because of the characteristics of the patients admitted to the emergency room.
Conclusion: Nurses defined the concept of care as meeting the physical needs of the patients. The nurses stated that they know that patients have psychological care needs, but intensity, treatment-oriented study constitutes an obstacle to meeting these needs of the patient. It is recommended to plan the trainings by considering the priority care needs of the patients specific to the emergency services (triage, yellow, red and green areas).
