Identifying the Needs of Teachers Working with Individuals with Special Needs

Öz

This study aims to determine the needs of teachers working with individuals with special needs regarding the teaching process. The research is designed as a basic qualitative study. The participants of the study consist of teachers working with students with special needs at a special education institution located in the Central Anatolia Region. In line with the research objective, data were collected from participants through semi-structured interviews and observations made in natural classroom settings. According to the findings obtained from the semi-structured interviews, teachers working with students with special needs have instructional support needs in areas such as material requirements, such as teaching materials, behavior management, assessment methods, family communication, and professional development in the teaching process. Data obtained from observations revealed findings such as a lack of systematicity in teaching practices, insufficient sensitivity to individual differences, and neglect of assessment processes. Based on the data obtained, it can be recommended that a structured support training program be developed to meet the needs of teachers.

Özel Gereksinimli Bireylerle Çalışan Öğretmenlerin Gereksinimlerinin Belirlenmesi

Öz

Bu araştırmada özel gereksinimli bireylerle çalışan öğretmenlerin öğretim sürecine ilişkin gereksinimlerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Araştırma temel bir nitel araştırma olarak desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın katılımcıları İç Anadolu Bölgesi’nde yer alan bir özel eğitim kurumunda görev yapan, özel gereksinimli öğrencilerle çalışan öğretmenlerden oluşmaktadır. Araştırma amacı doğrultusunda katılımcılardan yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler ve doğal sınıf ortamında yapılan gözlemler aracılığıyla veriler toplanmıştır. Yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmelerden elde edilen bulgulara göre özel gereksinimli öğrencilerle çalışan öğretmenlerin öğretim sürecinde eğitim-öğretim materyali gibi maddi gereksinimleri, davranış yönetimi, değerlendirme yöntemleri, aile iletişimi ve mesleki gelişim gibi alanlarda öğretimsel destek gereksinimleri olduğu ifade edilebilir. Gözlemlerden elde edilen verilere göre ise öğretim uygulamalarında sistematikliğin eksikliği, bireysel farklılıklara yeterince duyarlılık gösterilmemesi, değerlendirme süreçlerinin ihmal edilmesi gibi alanların bulunduğu bulgulara ulaşılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda, öğretmenlerin gereksinimlerine yönelik yapılandırılmış bir destek eğitim programı geliştirilmesi önerilebilir.
