Kentsel tarımda katılımı ne motive ediyor? Türkiye'den kanıtlar

Öz

Kentsel tarım, gıda güvenliği, sürdürülebilirlik, yerel üretim kapasitesi ve kentsel dayanıklılık tartışmaları içinde giderek daha fazla önem kazanmaktadır. Bununla birlikte, bireylerin kentsel tarıma katılımını belirleyen faktörlere ilişkin ampirik kanıtlar, özellikle Türkiye gibi gelişmekte olan ülkeler bağlamında sınırlı kalmaktadır. Bu çalışma, Türkiye’de kentsel tarıma katılım niyetini etkileyen sosyo-demografik özellikler, önceki tarımsal deneyim, politika farkındalığı ve COVID-19 pandemisiyle ilişkili davranışsal değişimler arasındaki ilişkileri incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada nicel yöntem benimsenmiş; yapılandırılmış anket yoluyla elde edilen veriler ikili lojistik regresyon modeli kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, kentsel tarıma katılım niyetinin en güçlü belirleyicisinin önceki tarımsal deneyim olduğunu göstermektedir. Tarımsal faaliyetlere ilişkin geçmiş deneyime sahip bireylerin kentsel tarıma katılma olasılığı anlamlı biçimde daha yüksektir. Ayrıca COVID-19 pandemisinin gıda üretimi, erişimi ve öz yeterlilik algısı üzerindeki etkileri de katılım niyetini pozitif yönde etkilemektedir. Buna karşılık eğitim düzeyi ve kentsel tarıma ilişkin politika farkındalığı, katılım üzerinde anlamlı bir açıklayıcı güç göstermemektedir. Sonuçlar, farkındalık ile davranışsal katılım arasında belirgin bir boşluk bulunduğunu ortaya koymaktadır. Bu nedenle kentsel tarımı destekleyen politikaların yalnızca bilgilendirme faaliyetlerine değil, uygulamalı eğitim, deneyim kazandırma, erişilebilir üretim alanları oluşturma ve pratik engelleri azaltma stratejilerine odaklanması gerekmektedir.

What drives participation in urban agriculture? Evidence from Türkiye

Öz

Urban agriculture has gained increasing importance in discussions on food security, sustainability, local production capacity, and urban resilience. However, empirical evidence on the factors determining individuals’ participation in urban agriculture remains limited, particularly in the context of developing countries such as Türkiye. This study aims to examine the relationships between socio-demographic characteristics, prior agricultural experience, policy awareness, and behavioral changes associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in shaping the intention to participate in urban agriculture in Türkiye. The study adopts a quantitative research design, and the data collected through a structured survey were analyzed using a binary logistic regression model. The findings indicate that prior agricultural experience is the strongest determinant of the intention to participate in urban agriculture. Individuals with previous experience in agricultural activities are significantly more likely to engage in urban agriculture. In addition, the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on perceptions of food production, food access, and self-sufficiency positively influence participation intention. In contrast, education level and policy awareness regarding urban agriculture do not show significant explanatory power. The results reveal a clear gap between awareness and behavioral participation. Therefore, policies supporting urban agriculture should focus not only on information dissemination but also on practical training, experience-building opportunities, accessible production spaces, and strategies to reduce practical barriers.
