Ahlat ilçesinin jeoturizm potansiyelinin araştırılması: GAM ve A’ WOT yönteminin uygulanması

Investigation of the geotourism potential of Ahlat (Bitlis) district: application of GAM and A’ WOT

Yıl 2026, Sayı: 57, 239 - 266, 30.01.2026

Öz

This study aimed to elucidate the geotourism potential of the Ahlat region and to propose strategies for the development and sustainability of the tourism sector. The Geosit Evaluation Model (GAM), A’WOT, and TOWS techniques were employed to attain this objective. The GAM model was initially implemented, and the resulting data were presented in a matrix diagram to ascertain the potential levels of the geosites and geomorphosites. Accordingly, it was determined that the geosites and geomorphosites outside of Nemrut Lake were located in the middle of the matrix and had an intermediate level of potential in terms of both primary and secondary values. Then, the A’WOT technique was used to identify the strengths and weaknesses of tourism in Ahlat, as well as the opportunities and threats. The qualitative data obtained were quantified using the Analytic Hierarchy Process technique and prioritized based on importance. Finally, the TOWS technique was used to determine strategies for protecting Ahlat’s unique geological and cultural heritage and increasing its appeal as a tourist destination.
