FINANCIAL LITERACY IN THE DIGITAL AGE: EDUCATIONAL TOOLS AND CONSUMER EMPOWERMENT

Öz

The digital revolution of the 21st century has fundamentally transformed the financial sector, creating new opportunities and challenges for consumers. Digital financial literacy—which combines traditional financial knowledge with digital skills and cybersecurity awareness—is now an essential prerequisite for economic and social participation. This study examines the concept of digital financial literacy, its legal and regulatory framework, and a wide range of educational tools and methods in an international and Hungarian context. It focuses on European Union financial and data protection legislation, innovations generated by the fintech sector, and the psychological aspects of consumer decision-making. The research reviews digital financial risks, including cybercrime, data protection threats, and the risk of digital financial exclusion, and presents the latest empirical findings and case studies. The aim of the paper is to formulate scientifically sound, legally and pedagogically relevant recommendations for the development of financial literacy in the digital age, based on credible sources. The results emphasize that developing digital financial literacy is not only an educational task, but also a strategic social and economic priority that is key to long-term financial stability and consumer empowerment.
