Traditional houses in Anatolia reflect the life of the Anatolian people and the cultural and social structure of their society. Traditional houses in all regions of Anatolia may show some similarities in terms of planning principles and spatial organization, as well as some differences such as the climatic conditions of the region, the use of local materials or the construction techniques of the region. In order to ensure the sustainability of today’s housing designs, it is important to examine the characteristics of traditional house structures designed based on regional and local characteristics. For this reason, this study aims to examine the functional design of units in the interior organization of traditional houses through examples in the city of Mardin in Southeastern Anatolia, which is a very rich region in terms of history, architecture, and culture. In this direction, first, the Anatolian traditional house type, which is the basis of the study, was defined and the basic culture in the formation of this house type was investigated. Later, on the examples reflecting the traditional house typology and characteristics of Mardin located in the Southeastern Anatolia region, the shaping and functionality of the interior units of the houses according to the local culture was discussed with the support of visuals
