Evaluation of Professional Attitude, Job Satisfaction and Burnout Levels of Physiotherapists

Öz

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the professional attitudes, job satisfaction, and burnout levels of physiotherapists. It also aimed to compare these variables between women and men, as well as between private sector and public sector employees. In addition, the study investigated the relationship between professional attitudes, job satisfaction, and burnout. Material and Methods: The 140 physiotherapists participating were recorded in terms of demographic information, age, years of experience in the profession, and educational and workplace status. Their attitudes toward the profession were assessed with the Attitude Scale Towards the Physiotherapy Profession, their job satisfaction with the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire, and their burnout with the Maslach Burnout Scale. Results: Professional attitude scores were significantly higher among male physiotherapists. Job satisfaction and depersonalization subscale scores of burnout were significantly higher among female physiotherapists. Professional attitude and job satisfaction scores were also significantly higher among physiotherapists working in private practice (p<0.05). In addition, there was a weak but significant negative relationship between professional attitude and burnout (r=−0.366, p<0.001) and job satisfaction (r=−0.405, p< 0.001). A moderate, significant negative relationship was found between burnout and job satisfaction (r=−0.524, p<0.001). Conclusion: The findings indicated that professional attitude and job satisfaction decreased as burnout increased. Based on these results, interventions aimed at enhancing professional attitude and job satisfaction may be beneficial in reducing burnout levels among physiotherapists. Future studies are recommended to design and evaluate such interventions to prevent and reduce burnout.
