Comparison of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms According to Physical Activity Level in Adult Men

Yıl 2022, Cilt: 7 Sayı: 3, 495 - 499, 30.09.2022

Öz

Objective: The aim of this study was to compare lower urinary tract symptoms according to the physical activity level in adult men.
Material and Methods: Seventy-one adult men were included in the study. The physical activity levels were evaluated with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-7 and the participants were divided into 3 groups according to their physical activity levels [inactive group (n=25, median age=38 (22-65) years, median body mass index=27.37 (18.52-40.12) kg/m²), minimally active group (n=24, median age=35 (21-61) years, median body mass index=26.49 (22.49-35.92) kg/m²) and very active group (n=22, median age=34 (23-51) years, median body mass index=26.0 (21.33-40.24) kg/m²)]. The lower urinary tract symptoms were questioned with the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Male Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms.
Results: It was observed that voiding symptoms and the presence of nocturia symptom were different between the groups (p<0.050). It was determined that voiding symptom scores were mostly in the inactive, minimally active, and very active groups, respectively (p<0.050). In addition, more nocturia symptoms were detected in the inactive group than in the very active group (p<0.050). Storage and urinary frequency symptom scores were similar between the groups according to the physical activity level (p>0.050).
Conclusions: It was seen that inactive adult men had more voiding and nocturia symptoms than very active men. It may be important to establish conscious physical activity programs in the management and prevention of lower urinary tract symptoms in adult men.
