Virtual entities of museums have developed rapidly during new era of communication technologies through technical and social perspectives, esspecially websites. Virtual museum has begun to redefine itself on web systems, nowadays. Web based development processes have made serious impact on on both visitor and museums staff during COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors turned into users, as known as virtual visitors. Museums have started to use different kinds of systems like hashtags, curated posts and other kinds of shares to gain more people through reaching out from social media while keeping all of its traditional followers. Purpose of this study is to determine the possible outputs of these museum actions and help to understand the impact of virtual musuem awareness through a data mining process. For this reason, a broad range of literature review which also includes game like environments and similar digitalization technologies and platforms was used to understand of the virtual entity of museums. The information obtained from literature review has shown that museums tried to merge themselves with the social media users through original hashtags and posts. This helped to develop a more accurate path for data mining part of the study. Hashtags connected with virtual museum have been used on data mining through Twitter to analyze the awareness output. An examplary method was used to retrieve data from Twitter without using third party online softwares or plugins. The study is limited to analyze publicly open posts without likes, duplicated messages, mentions, visual media or any other kinds of share logs. In order to make more accurate examination on Twitter, the date range was determined from the virtual museum search results in Google Trends. All tweets, retweets and mentions counted seperately to learn maximum impact. Results have shown that #virtualmuseum hashtag gained more awareness on global scale social media use than the pandemic period.
