Young People's Smart Phone Use Motivations
Abstract
The desire of taking control of everything without spending much effort, which is increasing together with the speed of technology, has revealed that smartphones are increasingly being used outside of purpose. Although they are still called phones, the functions they are offering to individuals have already passed far beyond communication. In this study, which is based on the approach of uses and gratifications a survey was conducted on 406 university students to determine young people's smart phone usage motivations, which has begun to be addressed in terms of habit and addiction. After factor analysis applied to the data obtained from the study, it has been determined that the motivation of smart phone usage is composed of five groups. These factor groups were found to be socialization / access to information, entertainment, technology and keeping up with the developments, the comforts offered, and the feeling of confidence that the phone provides.
