Learners’ Perceptions for the Development of Verbal Language Skills in Foreign Language Through Social Media
Abstract
The study aims to determine the perceptions of Turkish students who are learning foreign languages in the language departments of universities in the learning and teaching of verbal language competences in foreign language through social media. The sample of the research constitutes higher education students who are attending in Foreign Languages Department. A total of 125 students from English, German and French Language Education Departments were involved voluntarily in research. A 5-point likert-type questionnaire "learners’ perceptions for the development of verbal language skills in foreign language through social media" was applied to participants. The reliability results of the scale were Cronbach Alpha = 0.83. The obtained data were analyzed by SPSS program and by descriptive analysis. Learners of foreign language do not think that they can benefit from social media in language learning and in the development of verbal communication skills, and perceive it as a far more application of entertainment.
