Abstract

As being an important struggling area in the feminist movement, alternative media tries to change existing media structures and/or create new media forms in order to voice woman rights and to improve their status quo in public space within more fair and equalitarian understanding. Hence feminist alternative media, by which feminist discourses are created and feminist movement is extended, has become an important area within the framework of woman’s publicity because women’s media struggling is a mean for efforts of gaining a seat and in dominant patriarchal public space. In this study, in order to understand the development process of feminist alternative media in Turkey, a feminist platform called Kadınların Postası as an example of feminist alternative media, which is a project of Flying Broom Woman Communication and Research Association. The web site and social media channels of this platform were analyzed and interviews with some journalists of the projects were conducted through e-mails and phone calls. Within this context, some recommendations for the platform –and for feminist alternative media as well- were given in the conclusion.
