Evaluation of Disabled Working Culture in the Context of Gender

Abstract

Individuals with disabilities constitute an important part of society in our country. For these individuals, whose numbers have significantly increased each year, to have a job or to produce by participating in working life is basically a human right. This right is of great importance in terms of social gain, socialization and integration of disabled people. In order to provide or increase the participation of disabled people in the working life, it is necessary to know the working culture which reveals the attitudes and behaviors towards working life and the factors affecting it. The working culture of disabled people is shaped by different factors depending on gender.

The aim of the research we have prepared in this direction is to determine the differences in working culture of working people with disabilities and working culture according to gender. In this research in

which qualitative method was used, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 42 disabled individuals in the Alanya region. According to the findings obtained, individual and social factors are more influential on the working culture of the disabled women. For the disabled men, it has been seen that organizational and social factors are influential. Gender-based evaluation of the working culture will ensure that the attitudes or behaviors of disabled people to their working life are more clearly and accurately identified and help them identify different demands or expectations for their working life. Only under these circumstances it is possible for disabled people to take part in the working life more.
