The Cycle of Violence in Family Systems

Yıl 2017, Cilt: 6 Sayı: 4, 40 - 64, 27.08.2017

Öz

In the current study, the family and individual
interaction was presented by examining the gender role attitudes, within family
violence and problem solving abilities of women. In addition, the association
of these attitudes with the parental self-efficacy and harsh parenting
behaviors in women was examined. A representative sample with a probability
proportional to size was composed of 810 women who had children aged 2-8, and
the women were randomly recruited in the study.
The results showed that, women who lived in rural areas and who had low
education and socio-economic status had traditional gender role attitudes,
experienced more violence from their husbands. The regression analyses
indicated that mothers who had traditional gender role attitudes, experienced
more physical and emotional violence from their husbands and felt desperate,
displayed higher levels of harsh parenting behaviors towards their children.
