Öz

'Yerinde Yaşlanma'
kavramı, genellikle, yaşlanırken evde kalabilmek için ideal olan politikayı
ifade etmek için kullanılır. Yerinde yaşlanmanın felsefesi, evde yaşam ortamının
sürekliliğini, toplumda bağımsızlığın korunmasını ve sosyal içermeyi
kapsamaktadır. Çevresel gerontoloji alanında çalışan bilim insanları, bireylerin
yaşlandıkça, yaşadıkları mekânın fiziksel ve sosyal ortamına daha fazla
bağlandıklarını iddia etmektedir. Söz konusu
çevresel bağlam ile kişisel kimlik arasındaki etkileşimin yansımaları, çeşitli
sosyal, psikolojik ve fiziksel konular bağlamında gözlemlenebilmektedir. Sağlık ve sosyal bakım maliyetlerini sınırlandırmaya
yönelik finansal zorunluluklar tarafından bakımevinde kalmaya
yönlendirilmelerine rağmen, yaşlı insanlar da, genellikle, yerinde yaşlanmayı
tercih etmektedir. Yaşadığı çevredeki sivil faaliyetlere katılım, yaşlıların
sosyal ilişkilerini sürdürmelerini, mahalle etkinliklerine ve politikalarına
katılmaya devam etmelerini sağlayarak, yerinde yaşlanmanın önemli bir
belirleyicisi olmaktadır. Bu çerçevede, makalemizde, öncelikle, çevresel
gerontoloji literatüründeki kuramsal tartışma ve bulgulardan hareketle “yerinde
yaşlanma” olgusunun temel belirleyicileri üzerinde durulacaktır. Makalemizin
ikinci kısmında ise, yerinde yaşlanma olgusunun aktif yaşlanma süreciyle
ilişkisi tartışılacak ve sosyal etkileri değerlendirilecektir.

Basic Determinants of ‘Aging in Place’ in the Context of Environmental Gerontology and Its Correlation with the Process of Active Aging

Öz

The concept ‘aging in place’ is often used to denote
the ideal policy of being able to remain at home while aging. The philosophy of aging in
place involves the continuity of the home life environment, preservation of
independence in society and social inclusion. Scientists
working in the field of environmental gerontology claim that as individuals get
older, they become more connected to the physical and social environment of the
space they live in. Reflections of the interaction between the environmental
context in question and the personal identity can be observed in the context of
various social, psychological and physical issues. Elderly people generally prefer aging in place, although they are directed to stay in nursing homes by financial obligations
aiming to limit both healthcare and social care costs. Participation in civic
activities in the surrounding area continues to be an important determinant of aging
in place, enabling the
elderly to maintain their social relations and continue to participate in
neighborhood activities and policies. In
this context, our article will primarily focus on the main determinants of the
phenomenon of “aging in place” on the basis of theoretical discussions and
findings in the environmental gerontology literature. In the second part of the
article, the correlation between the phenomenon of aging in place and active aging will be discussed and its
social effects will be evaluated.
