Translation and Reception: Kendine Ait Bir Oda/A Room of One’s Own with Digital Reader Reception

Digital reception and reader reception, which have been used in various fields over time, have eventually reflected its impact in the field of Translation Studies. With the help of Digital Humanities and digital reading reception based on online responses of readers, the intention of the writer and the type of transfer conducted by translated texts might be observed. The aim of the prevalent study is to examine the practices of Digital Humanities within the subfield of digital reader reception and to discuss its potential contributions to the field of Translation Studies. To this end, reception theory, its relationship with Digital Humanities and Translation Studies are discussed; an overview of overlapping studies in both fields are provided. Virginia Woolf’s Kendine Ait Bir Oda -Turkish Translation of a Room of One’s Own- is examined using online reader responses and digital tools. Online reader comments on Kendine Ait Bir Oda are retrieved from two online platforms: Ekşi Sözlük and 1000 Kitap via web scraping using Python. Identifying online reader responses to Kendine Ait Bir Oda via digital tools determines prominent reader-oriented themes. Furthermore, an analysis of online reader activities implemented on 1000 Kitap verifies similar patterns in accordance with readers’ conscious book choices.
