Azerbaijan's Connected Plant Diversity in Aquatic Habitat

Abstract

In this research, it was aimed to reveal plant diversity which is seen in Azerbaijan's aquatic ecosystems. The Azerbaijani territory in terms of plant diversity in the Caucasus region is far from the other regions with its rich richness. Water and swamp ecosystems cover a wide area of vegetation within the Azerbaijani forest, which is richer in flora and vegetation than neighboring countries (Grossheym, 1948, Prilipko 1970, Haciyev1990, Talıbov, İbrahimov 1996), along with forest, steppe, grass, frigana, aubalpine and alpine meadows.

Land studies related to this subject are carried out twice a month during April-October between 2013 and 2015 in accordance with the methods of land geobotanism. Examples of flora and vegetation were taken and records were made, including Kizilagaç Bay, Ak-lake, Şabran Port and Hacıqabul Lake and Caspian Sea Deluge (Nevtçala). Plant samples belonging to aquatic ecosystems are arranged according to herbarium construction rules and are kept in the Herbarium of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Botanical Institute. These ecosystems are in order; Especially in the flat sections of Kür-Araz plains, Abşeron, Samur-Deveçi, Alazan-Eyriçay, Mil, Mugan, Shirvan, Ceyrançol, Qobustan and Nahcivan. The waters-swamp ecosystems of Sarısu, Ağzıbirçala, Akgöl, Candargöl, Büyük Alagöl, Gökgöl, Hacıgabul, Büyük-Şor, Aşık Kara, Karaçug and Kızılğaç Bay all show wide distribution. Numerous lakes are found in coastal areas, especially on the Caspian coast, in the form of stains in different types of vegetation (chol, semi desert, forest, subalpine and alpine grass). It has been revealed that 502 taxa belong to 62 families and 208 glands in the water-swamp flora. This includes 11.2% of the total number of species of Azerbaijan flora. Poaceae, Cyperaceae, Ranunculaceae, Fabaceae, Potamogetonaceae, Juncaceae, Salicaceae, Chenopodiaceae, and Brassicaseae are more abundant in the water-swamp flora. There are 12 trees, 412 herbaceous plants with an aquatic environment. When evaluated ecologically; Cute watery lakes and around; Salty lakes and swamps around; Hydrohalophite, psammohalophite, xerophthalite; Teas, sweet watery lakes and mesophytes and xeromesophytes are predominantly spread in the swamps. In the in-water plant assemblies: İn aquatic forets dominatitet assosations: Salixetum albae, Phragmeto-Alnetum barbati, Populetum nigrae, Rubeto- Elagnetum angustifoliae, Vərbasco thapsus-Hippophaetum  rhamnoidesae, Phragmeto communisae-Tamaricetum ramosissimae, Populetum albae, Salici purpureae-Populetum nigrae.
