An inestigation o the relationship etween multidimensional disease seerity and actiities o daily liing in patients with chronic ostructie pulmonary disease

Öz

Purpose: Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) frequently experience activity restrictions and discomfort during activities of daily living (ADL). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between multidimensional disease severity and ADL in patients with COPD. Methods: Forty-two moderate-severe patients with COPD (27 males, 15 females) were included in the study. Multidimensional disease severity was determined using the ADO index (Age, Dyspnea, airflow Obstruction). Activities of daily living (ADL) was assessed using London Chest ADL Scale (LCADL) and performance-based the Glittre ADL-Test. Results: The ADO index score was significantly correlated with the LCADL-physical activity score (r=0.329, p=0.035), the Glittre ADL-Test time (r=0.523, p<0.001), change in heart rate (r=-0.351, p=0.023), oxygen saturation (r=-0.401, p=0.008), and dyspnea perception (r=0.403, p=0.008) during the Glittre ADL-Test. Conclusions: Increase in multidimensional disease severity is associated with declined in performance of ADL, increase in oxygen desaturation and dyspnea perception during ADL and subjectively dyspnea perception increase during physical activities in patients with COPD. The ADL should be evaluated comprehensively with performance-based ADL tests and questionnaires in patients whose disease severity are higher

Öz

Amaç: Kronik obstrüktif akciğer hastaları (KOAH) sıklıkla aktivite kısıtlanmaları ve günlük yaşam aktiviteleri (GYA) boyunca rahatsızlık yaşarlar. Çalışmanın amacı; KOAH’lılarda çok boyutlu hastalık şiddeti ile GYA arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktı. Yöntem: Çalışmaya 42 orta şiddetli-şiddetli KOAH’lı hasta (27 erkek, 15 kadın) dahil edildi. Çok boyutlu hastalık şiddeti, ADO (Yaş, dispne, havayolu obstrüksiyonu - Age, Dyspnea, airflow Obstruction) indeksi ile belirlendi. GYA, London Chest GYA Skalası (LCGYA) ve performansa dayalı Glittre GYA testi kullanılarak değerlendirildi.
