Examination of The Relationship Between Obsession with Coronavirus and Cyberchondria

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 6 Sayı: 3, 514 - 527, 25.12.2024

Öz

This study aims to investigate the relationship between COVID-19 obsession and cyberchondria and analyze how these variables vary across demographic factors. The study employs a quantitative, cross-sectional approach. Data were collected through a questionnaire comprising the COVID-19 obsession scale, cyberchondria severity scale, and demographic variables. The sample consisted of 406 participants from various districts in Mersin (including central districts and Tarsus) and Adana (including central districts, Kozan, and İmamaoğlu), using random and snowball sampling methods. The findings revealed significant differences in cyberchondria severity levels based on educational status and time spent on the internet. Additionally, correlation analysis demonstrated a positive and significant relationship between COVID-19 obsession and cyberchondria. This study highlights a positive relationship between COVID-19 obsession and cyberchondria, suggesting the need for targeted health policies aimed at addressing COVID-19 obsession and guiding health information-seeking behaviors more effectively. Strengthening the infrastructure for remote healthcare provision is recommended as a crucial policy measure to mitigate cyberchondria.
