ASSESSMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGIES TEACHERS’ OPINIONS REGARDING THEIR SELF-COMPETENCE AND PROBLEMS IN APPLICATION

of teachers is one of the main problems regarding education in Turkey as it is
around the world. In this study, it is aimed to assess the opinions of
information technologies teachers regarding their self-competence and problems
in application. Qualitative interview method was utilized in the study. Study
group consisted of 36 information technologies teachers who volunteered to
interviews in the central districts of Aydın, Denizli and Muğla.
While designating 36 teachers from three provinces, of purposive sampling
methods, maximum variation sampling method was utilized. In the study,
semi-structured interview form was used as data collection tool. Expert opinion
was received in the creation of the semi-structured interview form and the
final form was given after the pilot study. For data analyses; interviews made
with the prepared semi-structured interview form were recorded with voice
recorder; and opinions of one interviewer who did not consent to voice recording
were recorded by taking note. Interview records were transcribed and recorded
in written in digital environment. After that, interview data were analyzed by
content analysis method. As a result, it was detected from opinions of the teachers that; the education
provided in university does not exactly match with the job, there are some
deficiencies in the teaching competences which require activity, information
technologies is considered as elective by students, administrators and other
teachers, teachers cannot interfere with the milieu, planning is not
emphasized, teachers generally teach courses with the materials they find
online, students do not exactly know even the basic operations regarding
computer literacy, teachers from other branches are not disposed to make use of
information technologies, teachers of information technologies are obliged to
accept formation teaching, professional development is mostly achieved by
internet, assessment works are not taken seriously, teachers conduct assessment
at the time of implementation in accordance with the general condition of the
class, parents rarely visit school for discussing any issues.
